The recording video or audio files owns lots of hidden details, such as Code ID/info, audio tracks, bit rate and more. To view them, MediaInfo, an excellent utility, can list all technical information and tag data of video and audio items.
According to mediaarea.net, the MediaInfo data display includes:
- Container: format, profile, commercial name of the format, duration, overall bit rate, writing application and library, title, author, director, album, track number, date, duration...
- Video: format, codec id, aspect, frame rate, bit rate, color space, chroma subsampling, bit depth, scan type, scan order...
- Audio: format, codec id, sample rate, channels, bit depth, language, bit rate...
- Text: format, codec id, language of subtitle...
- Chapters: count of chapters, list of chapters...
It can display more details than viewing parameters with right click and it is free and open-source. Besides, it provides online version to try without installing app on PC/Mac (both Windows and Mac system are supported).
Tip: Something Should Be Known:
- CBR: Constant Bit Rate - an encoding method that keeps the bitrate the same.
- VBR: Variable Bit Rate - the bitrate would dynamically increase or decrease within a target range.
- ABR: Average Bit Rate - the average amount of data transferred per unit of time, usually measured per second, commonly for digital music or video. (-from wikipedia.org )
If your recording file owns multiple audio tracks, MediaInfo can display the bit rate of one of the tracks so that you can decide which one is suitable for playing. Those information in MediaInfo cannot be fully viewed in Properties when right clicking on the item.
